How to Rock the Chunky Frame Look!

,

Large-framed glasses are making a come back. Read more to find out how to get the right frame for you—and how to pull them off!

1. If your a first time glasses buyer, try a frame that more subtle and slim first. Once you get used to your freshly framed face, try a look that is more chunky for this trend.

2. Not all frames were created equal. Don't buy unless you've tried the frames on, as they may look great in the picture but look differently once they're on your face. Head over to eyeglassfactory.com for our At Home Try-On and Virtual Try-On services to pick the frame that's perfect for your face.

3. With the chunky frame look, it's all about the shape. If you have a rounder face, try a more geometric frame to compliment it, and vice versa if you have a more angled face.

4. We know that the look is called geek chic, but choose glasses that will make you look smarter, not nerdier! Try tortoiseshell frames for a mature, elegant look.

5. The chunky frame look is all about making a statement. So rock the look with confidence and be prepared for comments and compliments!

Make-up Tips for Eyeglass Wearers!

,

Glasses and makeup may seem like an unlikely pair, but don't let that stop you from getting dolled up! Use these tips and tricks from industry experts for the perfect eyewear makeup look.

1. Pay Attention to Your Eyebrows!

Your eyes may be covered, by your eyebrows still peak out over your glasses. Well groomed eyebrows look clean, make a statement, and frame your face. Try an angled brush and powder to avoid the drawn on look.

2. Eyeliner

Adjust your eyeliner based on your frames. Celebrity make-up artist Bobbi Brown says, "Adjusting liner thickness is important when you’re wearing glasses – if your frames are thicker, you’ll want to apply a thicker line to the upper lash so that eyes stand out. If your frames are thinner, a softer liner works great."

3.Bold Frames? Bold Lips

Balance out statement glasses with a clean face and a bold red lip.

4. Less is More

Wearing glasses already brings attention to your eyes, so keep it simple! Stick to neutral colors on your eyes and save the pop of color for your lips or cheeks.

5. Stick to Matte

Professional make-up artist Sonia Kashuk says, "Higher shine and shimmery products intensify 'flaws.' Stick to matte, satin finishes. Even when you don't want to wear makeup, using an eyelash curler and applying mascara can add umph."

Eyeglasses Hit the Runway this Season

,

Long thought to be nerdy and unfashionable, eyeglasses have rarely been spotted on the runway compared to their sunglass counterpart. Things have changed this season, however, as eyeglasses with real lenses graced the runways of many tastemakers in high fashion. Read below for our top five picks from the runway.

1. Prada sent out exaggerated, thick floral frames for their spring collection.  Quite possibly the most talked about and most coveted eyeglass of the season.

2. Givenchy sent out their unique version of the classic "thick frame" look.

3. Malandrino put a fun and funky twist on their glasses with pops of this season's hot color: red. Colored frames are in this season!

4. At ADAM, models sported a modern take on the classic thick black frames. If the Givenchy look is too bold, try a style like this.

5. Last but not least, these color lens glasses by Siki Im made a splash on the other side of the coast during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Put some colored lenses in your circle frames for some serious Lennon vibes.

EGF Tips: Keep your Glasses Clean

,

If you've ever worn glasses, you've probably experienced just how annoying and inconvenient dirty lenses can be. What's worse is when you go to clean that one spot off of your lens  and you accidentally scratch it! Yup, we've all been there. Read below for what we think the best tips and tricks are for keeping your glasses looking clean and new.

1. Use a Microfiber Cloth

  • Microfiber clothes are made from ultra soft fibers. Unlike using other fabrics or  disposable textiles like tissues, using a microfiber cloth will not leave any scratches or residues behind on your lens. Can be used wet or dry.
2. White Vinegar
  • Splash a few drops of white vinegar onto your lenses to dissolve any oils left from your fingers or to loosen any dirt particles. Gently run under tap water and let dry. Using white vinegar, unlike other cleaners like Windex, will not leave behind harmful chemicals that might otherwise damage your lens.
3. Toothbrush Method
  • Use a new toothbrush to wipe off excess oils and makeup off of the bridge and avoid buildup. Dip it in glasses cleaner if your glasses are extra dirty.
4. Get a Case
  • Maybe this one seems a bit obvious. Investing in a good home for your glasses will prevent them from being scratched, bent, or sat on. We recommend get a boxy one made out of a hard plastic. Wrap your glasses in a microfiber cloth before you put them in for further protection!

Google Glass: The Future of Eyewear?

,

Its been a year since the prototype was first announced, but the Google Glass has finally arrived. Despite its name, the Google Glass is a lightweight, lens-less frame that has all of the function of your smart phone and more.

The Google Glass can do everything from checking your calendars to recording videos. This was put to the test on the Diane von Furstenburg Spring/Summer 2013 runway show. Models walked out in the latest DVF styles while recording the show through their individual glass. This footage will later be compiled into a short film, giving a whole new meaning to high tech meets high fashion.

The Google Glass aims to seamlessly integrate technology into our lives in a way that doesn't take away from our ability to stay connected to the outside world, giving a new function to eyewear and changing the way that we experience technology.  Watch the video below to get a more in-depth look at how these glasses function.
